Beckenham Parochial Charity Educational Grants



Educational Grants can be made for the benefit of individuals, schools or youth organisations and applications can be submitted at any time of the year.

The Trustees meet four times a year, in January, April, July and October and all Educational Grant Applications received will be considered at these meetings.

Grants are awarded at the discretion of the Trustees.


Grants to Individuals - Guidance Notes

Grants are available to individuals under the age of 30 currently living in Beckenham or Penge.

Grants are made for educational activities only.

Individuals applying for a grant may be required to demonstrate financial hardship.

Individual grants are for a maximum of £500.00 and are for specific items or to meet specific costs.

When considering applications, the Trustees will consider:
- how the grant will explicitly benefit the applicant’s education
- if the individual has demonstrated financial hardship
- references from the sponsor of the application
- the reasons why you are applying for a grant as included in the application form

An email will be sent shortly after the Trustees’ Meeting informing the applicant of the decision.

Grants are not awarded to pay for school fees, university fees, college fees, domestic bills, childcare, food or payment of debts.

Grants are not awarded retrospectively.


Grants to Individuals - Requirements

On the understanding that you have read through the Guidance Notes for Individuals please provide the following documentation to support your Educational Grant Application:
- A Letter of Support or reference on official headed paper emailed from an official email address from the individual’s Head teacher, Form Tutor or other qualified person responsible for the individual’s education. This must be sent at the same time as the Application.
- A short personal statement explaining the reasons why you are applying for a grant. This is completed on the Educational Grant Application form.
- Details of your current financial position
- Proof of address


Grants to Schools/ Youth Organisations – Guidance Notes

Grants are available to schools and youth organisations based in Beckenham and Penge that provide education and activities for children and young people under the age of 30 living in Beckenham and Penge.

Examples of grants that have been awarded in the past include Duke of Edinburgh Award fees and funding, lunchtime club activities, school year group trip funding, library book provision.

Educational Grants up to a maximum of £3000.00 will be considered providing they are for specific items or to meet specific costs.

When assessing applications the Trustees will consider:
- how the grant will enable the organisation to provide education or recreational benefits to the recipients over and above the standard education provided and funded
- the number of children/young people who will benefit
- how many of the beneficiaries are experiencing difficulties or financial hardship
- whether the application demonstrates clearly defined costs

Grants are not made to assist schools in providing education or activities that are the responsibility of the DFE.

Grants are not made to update fixtures and fittings of an organisation’s building or for salaries or to provide educational resources, which can expect to be provided as part of normal classroom teaching resources.

Grants are not made retrospectively.

An email will be sent shortly after the Trustees’ Meeting informing the School/Youth Organisation of the decision.


Grants to Schools/ Youth Organisations – Grant Application
Requirements

On the understanding that you have read through the Guidance Notes for Schools/Youth Organisations, please provide the following documentation:
- The Educational Grant Application Form signed by the Head teacher/ Organisation Leader or signed by a member of staff and including a letter of support from the Head teacher/Organisation Leader.
- A clear explanation of why you are applying for the grant, what you propose to do or buy with the grant and who it will benefit (number of children, year group) and how. Please include as much detail as you can. This is completed on the Educational Grant Application Form
- supporting materials eg.brochure pages or leaflets and costings of all items

The charity may request to visit the school to gain further clarification of the purpose for the Grant application

Data Protection Statement: The information provided on the Educational Grant Application form will be stored
and used by the Charity in accordance with the GDPR. It will be used to assess grant applications and monitor
the use of grants. It may also be shared by other organisations where necessary to investigate and verify
information which has been provided. It may also be shared with other local grant making organisations. It
will not be used for any additional purposes or disclosed to other third parties without your permission, except
where this is required by law.
